Should my company use Offsite Backup Services?

Offsite Backup or remote backup service, also known as electronic vaulting or e-vaulting is a method of transferring your data electronically over the internet to a remote site that maintains the backup. Most businesses now days maintain some type of backup and it is extremely important that they do so. The question is which type of backup: local or Offsite Backup? The answer to this is simple. If your office has the bandwidth availability then yes to both local and Offsite. At System Architects we always recommend Offsite Backup to our clients and the best approach is a Hybrid Backup. A Hybrid Backup means you have a local copy and an Offsite copy of the data at the same time. The reason for this is that your business can recover data more rapidly if you have a local copy and the offsite copy allows you the ability to recover in the event that the local data is lost. How secure is this offsite backup depends on the company you use and how they have implemented their backup systems. We always recommend using a company you can see, visit and one that keeps your data local to Canada and not stored in other countries. Also take a look at our blog post “What IT services should my business invest in?” You’ll notice Offsite Backup is number one on that list as a requirement for any business.
